Breast Implant Placement
During the consultation our surgeon will discuss the various options available for the placement of the implants. After a proper examination of your chest and breasts the surgeon will advise what he feels is the most suitable approach for you. There are 3 areas that the incision can be made to insert the implant. The incision through which the implant is put through can be at the infra-mammary fold (the fold under the breast), peri-areolar (around the nipple), or trans-axillary (via the armpit).
Generally most surgeons prefer the incision point to be at the infra-mammary fold (the fold under the breast). The scar hides extremely well and will fade away to be barely visible. The length of the incision will depend on the size and type of implant used, but will usually average around 5cm.
The placement of the breast implant can be either inserted inside the breast cavity itself or behind a layer of muscle tissue on the chest wall behind the breast. The surgeon will advise you what he feels the best placement for the implant based on the type and size of implant you decide upon.
