Gynecosmatia – Male Breast Reduction Surgery
Gynecomastia is a condition that a growing number of men develop which can give one the appearance of having what is also called “man boobs”. Gynecomastia is a condition in which excess fatty tissue develops around the nipple and chest. Fortunately, this is very treatable with a procedure otherwise known as male breast reduction surgery or man boob surgery which very effectively removes excess fat on the chest and around the nipples.
What to expect during Male Breast Reduction Consultation?
During your initial consultation with Dr Barnouti, our leading plastic surgeon based in Sydney will examine and discuss with you the procedure to remove your Gynecomastia and discuss whether you are a suitable breast reduction surgery candidate.
What does the male breast reduction surgery procedure Involve?
Gynecomastia surgery has become a popular cosmetic procedure for men due to the rise of men developing “man boobs”. Not only does this condition look undesirable but often has a negative impact of one’s self confidence.
Gynecomastia surgery is generally a quick procedure to perform, only taking around an hour to complete. The procedure involves making a small incision around the lower half of the nipple which allows the surgeon to access the excess fatty tissue surrounding the nipple and chest region.
During the procedure Dr Barnouti will also complete the procedure by performing some liposculpting to achieve a more defined chest .
Once the procedure is complete the final step is to suture the incision in which dissolvable stitches are used.
Post male breast reduction surgery
After the procedure is completed a compression bandage is then applied at the site where the incision was made. The compression bandage must be worn around the chest for at least one week. This dressing helps in the healing process.
This is a same-day procedure, which means one can be discharged after the surgery.
We require a follow up appointment 7 days after you have been discharged. This is important so we can observe how the healing process is progressing and also to remove the dressing.
How long before I can Resume normal duties after gynecomastia ?
After the surgery it is advised that you completely rest for at least 24 and 48 hours. It is normal to experience mild discomfort during this time. At the 72 hour mark one can resume normal but less strenuous activities. The full duties will not be until 2-3 weeks are over and this includes sports and exercise.
